Extremely rare or new species should be donated to a federal repository (e.g. the Burpee Museum in Rockford, Illinois or University of Wisconsin-Madison).
If you take it, you have to prepare it or give it to someone who will.
Occasional sales are okay, but crew members should not be selling fossils as a business. We are taking fossils for private collections or crew displays. Donations to federal repositories are okay.
The sale of casts made from fossils is okay.
Significant progress should be made on preparation in the first six months, or the fossil should be donated to the crew. Unprepared fossils may become crew property if they are not being worked on significantly or the crew member moves away before the prep work is finished.
Prep materials may be contributed to the Waunakee High School Lab, Waunakee, Wisconsin.
